Attitudes of students and faculty members towards benefiting from electronic information sources in Sudanese universities. (Case study of Al-Nilein University)

Abstract

This study addresses the trends of students and faculty members regarding the utilization of electronic information sources at Nilein University. The focus of the study is on the current reality of using these sources and the difficulties faced by users, in addition to the challenges faced by libraries in managing intellectual production and effectively providing electronic resources.The study aims to analyze the reality of using electronic information sources by exploring their various types and forms, and identifying the challenges faced by students and faculty members in accessing these resources. The researcher adopted a survey methodology to collect data, utilizing questionnaires, checklists, and personal interviews with university library staff.The results revealed that the majority of students and faculty members use electronic information sources available on the internet and CDs. The study also indicated that the main motivations for seeking information include scientific research and academic study. However, a number of challenges were identified, such as the difficulty of easily accessing electronic information and a lack of training on how to use these sources.Based on the findings, the study provided a set of important recommendations, including:Providing students and faculty members with computers connected to the university's local network.Conducting training courses for university library staff to enhance their skills in handling electronic resources.Improving the work environment within libraries and promoting electronic libraries to activate their role in supporting the educational and research process.
